I thought the butterflies might be suitable for the blades of a fan. I made a template by doubling the nine degree wedge ruler for an eighteen degree wedge to accommodate the butterflies. I then made two fan shapes. The rest of the fabric, together with two of my own, looked a good selection to make a circle. I did this and extended it with the two fan shapes. The whole piece was then mounted using hand appliqué and was then machine quilted.
